Brilliant characterisation. Bravo again for capturing Byakuya’s voice so perfectly, and Gin too. You do them both great credit, and the dialogue really made me smile. Gin was everything I wanted in his interactions with Byakuya and the world. It was such a wonderful study on his personality, with layers upon layers or meaning. Even the pared down progression of their relationship felt natural.

I love the almost gentle style of storytelling. The events did not feel immediate, they had a kind of (hm, it’s difficult to describe as so much of your work is) faraway quality, like a fairytale in some respects.

My favourite part is the beginning, if only for the different route by which you communicate Byakuya’s need for Gin. I’ve never seen it written like that before; it’s such a fresh and original idea, and is clever in incorporating canon. It really gave me pause and is rather inspiring, I must say.

I love, absolutely love these lines! They just jumped out at me, so poetic and haunting, and the imagery is so vivid and alive. Just wow: ‘Horror because he knew that blood had come from something else...’ and ‘Warm with the death of something the Kuchiki heir hadn't seen, or warm from holding the bird before he killed it.’ I liked the horror of not knowing, (which is easy to relate to) and how one can link that up to Gin’s ambiguous nature. Of course I enjoyed every line, but these made the most impact.

And also: It hurt him in a way that he wasn't familiar with, in a way that spelled the beginnings of some inevitable agony; Beautiful.

Excellent work as always. A joy to read, if a bit of a bugger to review because of the obvious complexity therein XD

P.S. Reading this, I find it easy to believe that Gin could of been responsible for the death of Hisana, which is still rather vague canonically.
