Ren/Ruki is weird for me too, but I felt the need to consider how he was with her when they first met in canon... Staring at her dreamily while she stood in that river, yada yada. I don't want to give anything away for future chapters so I'll remain circumspect and just say that it isn't only Rukia that Renji's been attracted to in the past. There are plenty dark-haired tempters.
