Somehow I see Shinji dying like Peewee Herman in the original Buffy movie -- lots of histrionic coughing and hacking and twitching, then stillness, then springing up for another round of melodramatic death throes, and Renji's just sitting there, tears poised, waiting for him to finish, wondering if wrinkles are gonna set in first. . .
FFFFF. I'd forgotten about his interaction with Hiyori, that's the most he's entertained me in a long time. Unfortunately she's unavailable in the fic, but I think you may be onto something there. Maybe I've been making him too mature and laconic, he doesn't have all those years under his belt yet. . .he was pretty mouthy the first time he met Matsumoto, too. . .hmmm. . .
Yeah, it's no good forcing it. . .although sometimes it helps (me, anyway), if stepping away doesn't recharge things, to just write it regardless, with the expectation that it's not going to work and it will be crap, but you can't tailor a naked dummy. Some things can only be rewritten, and the freedom of apathy can help to keep burn-out at bay. Or yeah, just write something else for a while. ;) Hallibel + Matsumoto?? Sounds like Hitsugaya's worst nightmare. All I can think is Boob Sammich, hahaha. I'm madly curious, though -- they could play so well off each other in myriad ways. . .
